IPOC Obedience


 

All classes require proof of current vaccinations at the start of each session.

All students must have properly fitting training collar and leash for their dog/puppy.
Some equipment available for purchase.

 

Obedience Class Descriptions & Times

  •   KINDERPUP (KPT) -- Puppies from 2 and 3 months at enrollment.   

    Kinderpup offers socialization with other puppies in the class, problem solving for puppy owners and early training in the basic commands of come, sit, down, stay, heel and leave it.
    •  Tuesday 6:00-7:00 pm
       
  •   SENIOR PUPPY (SPT), -- Puppies 4 and 5 months at enrollment.

    Senior puppy blends socialization, with basic commands of come, sit, down, stay, heel and leave it.  Handlers will work towards molding their new family member into a "good" family member.
    •  Tuesday 7:00-8:00 pm
       
  •   BASIC -- ALL dogs over 6 months at enrollment, 8 week session.

    In the basic class your dog will master the basic commands on leash in a class setting.  Learn how to train specific commands and how to utilize them day to day.  Dogs will learn how to handle distractions from other dogs in the class.  This class will prepare your dog for the AKC recognized "Canine Good Citizen" program, which opens doors for you and your dog, such as therapy dogs (IPOC's Therapaws).  Dogs completing this class can continue onto Advanced Basic, Beginning Agility, Rally and Flyball.

  •   ADVANCED BASIC -- Dogs completing one or more of the first three levels, but not ready for Novice class.

    Advanced Basic continues to build on the basic obedience commands while adding more distractions, attention and heeling.  Complete this class and you are one your way to Novice.

  •  COMPETITIVE NOVICE -- Dogs ready for Novice Trialing Instruction.

    This class will help prepare dogs and handlers to earn their Novice Obedience Title.  Learn important skills of fronts, finishes, figure eights, stand for exam, recalls, long sits & downs and heeling.  Rules and Regulations of the show ring are addressed.
    •  Wednesday 7:00-8:00 pm
  •  ATTENTION CLASS / PRE-OPEN

    The first four weeks will be an Attention Class. ($43 for Attention 4-week Class Only)

    The second four weeks will Pre-Open. ($42 for Pre-Open 4-week class only) Learn to take and hold a dumb bell, jump broad jump, drop on the flat, retrieve on the flat and retrieve over the solid jump. This is a preliminary class to the actual Open class. Dogs must have an understanding before entering an Open Class.

  •  INTRODUCTION TO OBEDIENCE COMPETITION GAMES

    This is a four week mini class ($43) to teach introductory skills to dogs who are headed to the Obedience Ring. It will be focused on basic skill games to teach the dogs how to execute some of exercises with more skill and precision. Humans must have knowledge of all exercises for OPEN, UTILITY, and NOVICE. Dogs will be introduced to skills to help them execute those exercises. This class is only for students who are willing to put forth the daily effort to train their dogs. Handlers will be held accountable for daily practice between classes. This is not a problem solving class, but an introduction to skill games class.

    Class size is limited to 10 dog/handler teams.

  •  OPEN -- Dogs ready for Open Trialing Instruction.

    Learn how to teach your dog to retrieve a dumbell on the flat and over a jump as well as proper training of the broad jump, heeling exercises and out of sight long sits and downs.
    •  Wednesday 8:00-9:00 pm
  •  UTILITY -- Dogs ready for Utility Trialing Instruction.

    Learn scent discrimination, directed jumping, go outs and more.  Handlers and dogs will learn the rules of the Utility ring, while building a stronger team partnership.
    •  Wednesday 7:00-8:00 pm
       
  •   IPOC’s BUDDY TRAIN -- Independent/Shared-Obedience Training RingTime.

    Dog and handler teams work independently yet concurrently with other participants in the same ring space, utilizing various training methods and tools. Handlers must be willing to setup and tear down equipment as needed. Instructors are not provided. Everyone is expected to help each other as a team effort. A timer will be used to ensure floor rotations every 10 minutes if needed. Dog and handler teams must be able to tolerate various visual and auditory distractions. "Group" candidates must be willing to commit to monthly payments of $20.00 by the first of each month. When the maximum number of Group Members is reached for the space allotted on the floor,, additional candidates will be placed on a wait-list. (A membership form will be placed on the website in the near future and are currently available at the training center)
